Kip Gary - President

Kip Gary is an executive with ExxonMobil Development Company and has been a Board Member since 2006.  He has more than ten years of experience coaching youth soccer.  He also serves as a Board Member for the Magnolia YMCA and is a deacon at First Baptist Church Magnolia.  His wife, Shelly is a former teacher of Texas history and is currently employed full-time raising 2 sons and contributing to volunteer activities in the schools and the community.  The Gary family has been involved with Sports Quest for 17 years with their 2 sons participating as campers and as volunteers in the summer camp program.



David Markley - Vice President

David Markley has been a  Board Member since 2006, and supported Sports Quest by coordinating soccer camps in Austin from 2002 through 2007. He is currently Vice President of Product Development for Fallbrook Technologies Inc., and is the Owner and Chairman of the Austin Aztex in the United Soccer Leagues. David previously served on the Premier Development League's Executive Committee and was selected as the Executive of the Year in 2009. He played club soccer at Auburn University, and is an avid sports fan who also enjoys football, baseball, and basketball. David is unmarried and has no children of his own, but has mentored many young adults through various ministry, collegiate, and sports organizations. David has a Bachelors Degree and Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University.  He is also a registered Professional Engineer and Program Management Professional.

Jim Spence - Board Member 

Jim Spence is the Founder of Sports Quest and has served on the Board since 1996. Originally from England, Jim came to Houston in 1992 to pursue soccer ministry. He is currenty the Executive Director of Sports Quest and oversees all on field soccer ministry. Jim graduated from North Staffordshire Polytechnic (now Staffordshire University) in 1989 with a BA Honors Degree in Sports and Recreation. Jim has been married to Co-Founder Debra Spence since 1994 and has 1 son and 1 daughter. To view Jim's soccer profile click here

   

Kyle Sears - Board Member

Kyle Sears has been a Board Member since 2005 and is a successful, versatile lawyer with over 25 years of experience in providing wise counsel and sound legal and practical advice to clients involved in business, disputes and transactions. Kyle has assisted clients in avoiding and resolving disputes through documentation, negotiation, mediation, litigation and arbitration. Assisted clients in negotiating and consummating business transactions. Kyle has served on the City Council for the City of Spring Valley, TX.; on the Soccer Board of Spring Branch Memorial Sports Association and has chaired and served on numerous committees at Houston's Second Baptist Church/school.  Kyle graduated from Texas A & M University in 1980 with a BBA in Finance, and in 1983, received a College of Law  Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston. He has been married to Debra for 28 years and has 2 daughters. 

 

 

Dr. Mark Hatfield - Board Member

Dr. Mark Hatfield had been a Board Member since 1997. He has been in Private Practice for 30 years providing inpatient and outpatient services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. He is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Texas and serves as an Examiner of Psychologists for the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. Dr Hatfield has been a member of the American Psychological Association since 1983. He is also a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology in Texas and provide consulting services to area school districts. He has been married to Janet for 37 years and has two sons.

 

 

Cynthia Teague - Board Member

Cynthia Teague has been a Board Member since 2009 and has been involved with Sports Quest through her children for 13 years.  Cynthia is the principle of Cynthia Teague and Associates (CTA), a 20 year old consulting company specializing in regulatory compliance auditing, training, and assistance for financial institutions.  CTA clients range from start up businesses to billion dollar banks in Houston and throughout Texas.  Both Cynthia and her husband, David, served in various volunteer roles at Cypress Christian School, where their children attended for 17 years.  Cynthia also served as a Board Member for Westside Soccer Club for three years.  Cynthia graduated from the University of Texas in 1979 with a BBA in Management.  She has been married to David for 28 years.  They have 2 sons and 1 daughter who were all trained by Sports Quest when they played competitive soccer for Westside Soccer Club.  All 3 children went on to play collegiate soccer and have participated as campers, and now as coaches for Sports Quest summer camps.

 

 

Jeff Wisener - Board Member

Jeff Wisener is the Chief Operating Officer for PJK Flooring and has been a Board Member since 2009. He and his wife Kelli have been married for 19 years and have five children.  The Wiseners were introduced to Sports Quest several years ago through their children’s participation in its summer soccer camps.  When their older children moved from recreational to competitive soccer, they trained with Sports Quest through Westside Soccer Club.  Most recently, the Wisener Family has had the opportunity to serve as volunteers during the summer camps.


 

Debbie Spence - Secretary

Debbie Spence has been a Board Member since 1996. She is Co-Founder of Sports Quest and became a full time employee in 2002.  Debbie serves as the Office Manager and oversees all day to day off field operations of the ministry. Debbie is City and Guilds certified in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD-CAM) and earned a Diploma in Business Studies. She graduated from Percival Whitley College in Halifax (UK) in 1983. Before moving to the US, Debbie worked as a Technician for Yorkshire Water for over 10 years.  Debbie has been married to Co-Founder Jim Spence since 1994 and they have a son, Joshua and a daughter Megan.
