Houston 1836 Visits Westside Soccer Club

Almost 100 Westside Soccer Club coaches and parents turned out to hear from Houston 1836 Head Coach Dominic Kinnear and President Oliver Luck.  The event, held at the Holiday Inn (Hwy 6 & I.10) was a tremendous success, with the audience gaining insights on issues such as the preferred playing formation of the team, the plans for community involvement, and the excitement of working with youth organizations such as Westside Soccer Club.  Coach Kinnear cited that his greatest joy in the game has been establishing life-long friendships and relationships...that the people he's met throughout the course of his distinguished playing and coaching career have been the most special.

One question from the audience provided a sobering answer and message...
Question: "What do you see as the biggest problem in youth soccer?
Answer from Coach Kinnear:   "I would have to say one of the biggest problems is parental pressure on the kids to succeed.  It's fantastic that the youngsters have such wonderful parental support every time they play.  However, it's important that the kids are allowed to enjoy the game without undue stress being placed on them.  Let the kids play!"

Coach Kinnear, Oliver Luck and the 1836 representatives showed themselves to be terrific ambassadors for Houston's Professional Soccer Team.  They certainly made a lasting impression on everyone privileged to meet them in person, and the signs are good for a long and successful relationship with the Houston community.

Thanks to Westside Soccer Club's Mike Harwell (VP) and Mark Brody (Treasurer) for arranging the special event.
