The following "Code of Conduct"
was presented by former NFL player Joe Ehrmann during his presentation ("Coaching To Win") at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church on Sunday February 8, 2004. Joe is the subject of the book "Season Of Life" More...
1. Be mindful to never shame a child, but to correct in an uplifting and loving way. AFFIRMATION!
2. Believe in every child. Remember "In youth is where miracles are made."
3. Protect our children. Be "big" enough to "build up" not "tear down." Our kids are getting attacked from many places we often don't see.
4. Remember our job is to put our children in a position to develop by proper teaching and nurturing.
5. Each child deserves a chance to succeed and deserves utmost respect.
6. Coaches can disagree in meetings, but never in front of our children.
7. Hold dear our coaching / teaching / modeling family. We shall be and are united.
8. If you do not "know" - say so and get appropriate information. Don't bluff our kids!
9. Remember parents are our partners - we strive to work with each family in helping their children become adults. "Every child is some mother's son / daughter."
10. Love our players and other coaches.
11. No profanity!!!! Ever!
12. Know the difference between shaming and coaching. No yelling at our kids - teach them.
13. Don't be afraid to apologize.
14. We are nurturing successful people, not just successful athletes.
15. Regardless of our win / loss - we will be successful if we carry out the above 14 items.
"He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God."
Micah 6:8
